Holiday traditions are a great way to bring a family together and keep them together. It is so disappointing to have someone say that they have no special Christmas memory. There are so many different memories that parents can start that will last with their children for years to come.
As the father of seven children, I know first hand how family traditions have affected my children. Three of my children are now adults and they reminisce every Christmas about their favorite family activities and traditions. Traditions that they will continue with their families.
One of our oldest traditions begins on Thanksgiving Day by watching the 1947 black & white version of Miracle on 34th Street. This officially kicks off the Christmas season for us. We started out with only a couple of VHS videos and a TV schedule, but over the years we have collected more than 30 Christmas themed DVDs and videos.
Now, it has become an anticipated tradition for us to gather together regularly to sip cups of hot cocoa and eat while we watch a Christmas movie every night leading up to Christmas.
