In Florida a white Christmas means a sand storm, white waves crashing on shore, a sunlit beach, or a total "whiteout" of rain. Yes it does happen.
Last year at Christmas time, I was swimming with my grandsons who were five and seven years old. The next door neighbors little girl had come over for a swim. The kids were in the hot pool above the big pool. The parents of Sally are Christian. Her father is a Christian Minister.
My seven year old grandson was nearest to me in the big pool. The three of them were in a heated debate. The first time the seven year old turned around he said, "She says her mother doesn't believe in Santa Clause." I said to him, "If you don't believe in Santa you don't get presents."
I thought to myself, "Oh no, the first challenge to the jolly old man in the red suit."
"She says reindeer can't fly. Do you think reindeer can fly?" I said, "Well, yes I do." All this time the five year old is at her with words of condemnation.
"Does God and Jesus believe in Santa Claus? I told her that Santa was like a soul." Later my daughter told me that she was teaching the boys that Santa was the spirit of Christmas, the spirit of love and goodwill.
The little girl finally broke away from the two of them. "I'm going home. They're picking on me." I said to the boys, "Change the subject." That little girl was getting no where with my two "believer" grandsons. They continued playing undaunted by the challenge that there was no Santa.
They both wrote their letters, and waited for their special gifts.
Hey, where's my letter and long lost list? Like I said if you don't believe in Santa you don't get presents.
So, I am anxiously waiting at my chimney and door for the arrival of Santa Claus and all those presents!
